Celebrate your city centre wedding in Smock Alley Theatre for your intimate ceremony. Stepped in history, ceremonies take place in the beautiful Banquet Hall, exquisitely lit by the surrounding stained glass windows and natural spotlights overhead, creating the perfect setting for your small to large group celebrating your day.
Its unique space with stunning stained-glass-windows, the Banquet Hall is versatile and easy to change but with such interesting features it could easily be left as it is, with some simple personal touches added. Plus, the cobblestones of Cow’s Lane make for quite the photo backdrop.
The acoustics for music here are unparalleled for string instruments and it’s fully licensed too, so you and up to 150 guests can wed and celebrate with a post ceremony glass of bubbly and bite to eat until 16.00.
The space is available to book Monday to Sunday for all types of wedding ceremonies including civil ceremonies, civil partnerships and blessings.
Our wedding coordinator Sarah, will be able to assist with planning your ceremony to make it a day to remember.
Modern & Steeped in History
Smock Alley is a restored 17th-century theatre building, located centrally in the oldest district of Dublin.
Built in 1662 as Ireland’s first Theatre Royal, the theatre was one of the most significant in the world at the time.
The building was recreated as a Catholic Church in 1811 and in fact housed the first catholic church bell to toll in Dublin for over 300 years. The bell was famously rung by Daniel O’Connell until it cracked! Finally in 2012, Smock Alley Theatre returned to its roots. 350 years after it was first built, the theatre was carefully and lovingly restored to become Dublin’s Oldest Newest Theatre.
The Banquet Hall

The Banquet Hall is HSE licensed for Civil Ceremonies and Partnerships. If you wish to hold your ceremony with us, we provide church style pew seating and benches for up to 100 guests, top table, happy couple seating, our PA system, full lighting rig and staffing for €1,500 (ex VAT). For guest numbers above 100 additional furniture would need to be brought in.

Hannah and I were fortunate enough to get married at Smock Alley Theatre, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible support we received from Sarah from the very beginning. The venue itself is nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we first stepped in to the moment we walked up the aisle, we were in awe of the transformation. It’s an absolutely stunning space that set the perfect tone for our ceremony and made the entire experience feel magical. We chose the Dublin String Quartet from a list Sarah provided, and their music was the perfect complement to the atmosphere of the venue—beautiful and unforgettable. We honestly can’t imagine our wedding day without Smock Alley Theatre. It’s unique, atmospheric, and absolutely perfect for a day we’ll cherish forever. Myself and my husband got married here last May and it was just beautiful! Everything was fantastic, the wedding co-ordinator Sarah was so responsive and helpful over email and just made the day run so smoothly and nicely, we are very grateful to her for her lovely demeanour and professionalism. She was a pleasure to deal with. As there was nothing on in the space the afternoon before we were allowed to go in to decorate the space ourselves which I really appreciated. The venue itself is just stunning and needed little decoration to be honest! Our photos turned out so gorgeous. Flowers and food were delivered there without a hitch, the sound was perfect, it was a lovely open space for everyone to mingle after the ceremony, It was just perfect. Many guests commented on how lovely a building it was. We had a wonderful day and we are very thankful for this beautiful venue.
